Top 10 Funny Actors

It is never easy to make people laugh. Most of the time, it takes wit and careful thinking to make sure that you will really be seen as a “funny” person. And as far as this is concerned, there are 10 men who were able to establish themselves as truly funny actors.

1st – Bill Murray

He can go quirky. He can go goofy. And there are even times when he can be dead serious. The very first on the list is none other Bill Murray who has done Garfield twice. If there are legends and great actors, Bill will surely be one of them. This actor who starred in some of the well known films including Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, Groundhog and The Royal Tenenbaums surely deserves a standing ovation for his funny antics.

2nd – Eddie Murphy

For those who have been born during the 90s, you surely have not even the slightest idea as to how big Murphy was back in his days. During his prime, there is no one who can touch Eddie. From being a comedian, rising to a movie star and even a rock star, he managed to make a string of great hits which, until this very day, are considered as among the funniest films ever made, including Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hrs., and Dream Girls.

3rd – Will Ferrell

With a single glance, you will know that Ferrell was really destined for good things, with his ability to still make you laugh with the things that he do or say even if he is only a background character. He has easily managed to establish a good name as a funny actor and though he is not as great as the rest, it does not make him less than good.

4th – John Cleese

There is definitely a great reason why Cleese is considered as the most independently successful and well known member of Monty Python’s Flying Circus even with the rest of equally great cast members. He is the proof of that time honored adage in the comedy industry that when a person looks more dignified, he tends to be funnier once he does stupid things.

5th – Chevy Chase

Back in the times when he was younger, Chase happened to be a young but arrogant douchebag who was able to receive recognition for being a part of some of all time greatest comedies, including Foul Play, Spies Like Us, and National Lampoon’s Vacation.

6th – John Goodman

Coen Brothers’ unofficial muse, the resume of Big John is pretty much unassailable. He can effortlessly play the part of a snarly grizzly or a big and huggable teddy bear and either way, you know that he will be able to make you laugh till you drop. This is definitely a not bad turnout for someone who seemed to have been destined to stay with the role of being a cop during the early part of his career.

7th – John Belushi

He might have been ignited and burned out quicker than you blink but it is safe to say that even with his short career, Belushi was able to leave a good impression in the field of comedy.

8th – Jim Carrey

It has always been impressive to see Carrey using his unique ability and skill of shifting from being insanely silly to purely moving. However, the real strength of Carrey lies in his talent in absolutely giving no care at all just to make sure that you will be dropping in full blown laughter. Some of his best films include Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Yes man, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Mask, The Truman Show, and The Cable Guy.

9th – John Candy

If Candy does not appear in one of those favorite comedy films of yours, chances are he was at least given the offer to take part in it at one point in time. He is best described as a man who perfectly combined smarts, heart, and broad physical comedy in an unequalled measure. To make things simpler, you can consider Candy as the YouTube cat video’s cinematic equivalent. There is definitely no reason why you will not smile even by just watching him.

10th – Ben Stiller

The last but for some, definitely not the least, is Ben Stiller. Without a doubt, he is comedy’s hardest working man. In fact, it seems that he is putting out a new movie every 3 months, with just about each one of them blowing up the box office. On top of that, he was also a collaborator in just about all the big names in the field of comedy ever since his namesake show as debuted on MTV during the early part of the 90s, and this is the reason why is worth saluting.

Some of you surely have your own list of the top 19 funny actors but so far, these 10 manages to be the favorite of the majority for good reasons.
